MBFW Spring 2013

MBFW

So here is the MBFW schedule beginning next weekend. I took a look as I always do, and though I’d provide some brief commentary on what I am most looking forward to. As I highlighted my favorites (seen above in yellow) I realized, there aren’t may of my favorites that show in New York, and they may have all gone to London. Gasp. That is the big thing this year, many designers are choosing to show in London . I am all for the spread of fashion culture, but it used to mean something when you said you were showing at New York Fashion Week. That’s all I’m saying.

The first few days in my opinion, aren’t anything special. But they always save the more high-end and prestigious collections for the end. So what am I excited about? I’ll tell you:

Monique Lhuillier- who doesn’t love a good ball gown/wedding dress. Known for amazing detail and handwork in ornate dresses

Zac Posen- I feel like he’s the younger version of Marc Jacobs, and one day he too, will have a huge empire (z spoke, Zac Posen, collabs, etc) managing all his diversion lines and maybe an old fashion house or two

MM6 Maison Martin Margiela- What’s that jacket? Yes, it’s MM6. I love seeing what minimal-yet-highly constructed garments MM6 will present. It’s going to be strange and weird, but it’s also art.

Badgley Mischka– Finally, a fashion brand has surfaced between mass market shows. Badgley Mischka is beautiful and hopefully impressive. There are probably future best dressed looks in their collection.

Rachel Zoe- No I’m not obsessed with her, or worship her, but I do think her clothes are elegant and vintage-chic. She does a great job with converting her vision into reality. I am happy she continues to have a show at NYFW.

Milly by Michelle Smith- Preppy, colorful, cutesy. I’m trying to relive the days of Gossip Girl. No, I actually do love the Milly show. The looks are well put together and I often find myself saying, ” I want to wear that.”

Calvin Klein Collection: Minimal and yet elegant, I always love CK for this. I have flashbacks of Emma Stone’s lovely peach Oscar dress. Lets recreate that type of garment, shall we?

Can we please take a moment to talk about why/how Betsey Johnson is showing? I thought they were bankrupt? Regardless, I hope this NYFW is eventful and that lines surprise me. Who knows, maybe they’ll end up on this list in the fall.

Today’s Sephora Purchase

Went into Sephora on a whim, wasn’t planning on buying anything…..but isn’t that when you end up buying the most? YES. I usually linger around the NARS area or YSL, yearning for some beautiful color that is totally impractical for every day wear. But today I was shown the Anastasia Brow Fix, which is basically a clear wax that you use to shape your eyebrows. Sold. Anastasia is the go-to for anything brow related and I’ve been anxious to try their brow gel. (*I fear to mention, I broke out using the Maybelline clear brow gel, so never again) I’ve also been in desperate need of a moisturizer. I’ve had a few samples from Sephora but I didn’t love any one in particular. So the helpful sales associates recommended the Korres Wild Rose Moisturizer. I’m going to try it out, which is what’s so great about Sephora -the return policy. That being said, I am super happy with my purchases today.

Kids in America

Wildfox Spring 2012 is taking inspiration from the 1990s cult vehicle Clueless. They have really outdone themselves with their Spring 2012 lookbook. I think I want everything, and I’ve never been a Wildfox shopper. I find it too….what’s the opposite of LA noir? Well it’s that. Below are a few of my favorite photos. Check out the rest here.

…another beauty post…

After Christmas I realized I had racked up quite a bit in gift cards….to Sephora. I had been wanting a new mascara and lipstick and had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to get. I purchased the YSL: ROUGE VOLUPTÉ – Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick SPF 15 in 1 Nude Beige. I love it. The color works as a very neutral nude that also draws attention to my lips. It reminds me of the colors they wore in the ’70s.

My second purchase was the Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System. I heard nothing but wonderful things about this product and was anxious to try. Unfortunately, I am one of the few who don’t care for this mascara. I wear contacts and sometimes the fibers blur my vision when I’m putting it on. But the worst part is that your lashes feel slightly sticky all day and often stick together. After wearing the product all day I came home to find residue just below my brow line from where my lashes have been resting against my skin. I don’t have the receipt for this product but otherwise I would take it back. I think I will only be using it for when I go out at night. I think i could go on about this mascara but I’ll stop before I get too upset about the $35 I paid.

Vogue Jan 2013

Gwen Stefani looks perfect on the January 2013 cover of Vogue. She’s styled in Saint Laurent Paris, which also makes it’s Vogue cover debut. Gwen’s witchy hat, sparkly golden jacket, and bow tie blouse are truly rock chic. I love that Vogue is accepting the Saint Laurent collection. As we all know, their stamp of approval carries a heavy weight throughout the fashion community. It’s nice to see the clothes on a real person too, not just a 5’11, 100lb girl that is 1 in a billion. Gwen wears the clothes like she was born to. Nice job Vogue.

Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst ‘On the Road’ premiere

Kristen Stewart looks amazing in this Erdem dress standing next to Kirsten Dunst at the New York premiere of On The Road. The runway version is a bit longer and her stylist clearly opted for a more age appropriate length (though it is pretty short). I’m intrigued by Kristen’s recent red carpet outfit choices, she’s choosing some risqué pieces. It doesn’t seem like her. Her sheer Zuhair Murad gown at the Los Angeles Twilight premier also caused quite a stir. She doesn’t appear to be going for a sexy, it’s just different –a change from her normal converse and semi-goth look. Her overall look is really clean and chic. Light makeup, hair pulled back, minimal jewelry. It works.

Most Underrated

Ok, I know I’ve admitted that as of late my blog has taken a turn down the oh-so-glamorous beauty path. But I feel I must share everything that I currently believe in and this one is an ABSOLUTE MUST! Are you ready?

Brow Gel

This is a product that’s so underrated but actually essential to a well-polished look. An aesthetician recently told me that I had great arches. Yeah right. She went on to explain that they could be seen if I were to use a brow gel to comb my eyebrows up and over. She applied the look to my face and I was shocked. The gel brought out the natural shape of my arches and I immediately ran out to get this miracle product.

I bought Maybelline Great Lash clear mascara, you don’t need anything high end. It works on both lashes and brows. I’ve been using it for the past few days and I really think it’s opening up my face. Well kept brows are a must nowadays and it’s necessary to get them under control. I 100% recommend adding this step to your beauty routine!
