    Aren’t these cherry blossom nails amazing? I’m obsessed.

Hey guys, do you have Pintrest? We should follow each other. I mainly use Pintrest for the Hair & Beauty section. There are tons of great nail art and hair tips. Oh yeah…and the recipes. But let’s not go there, I ended up making cake pops last week. That’s what Pintrest does to me.

      On to my next order of business: I recently discovered this amazing website called Hey, Hey! Gorgeous. It’s basically a curated salon finder for your city. I once read that “finding a good salon is harder than finding a man.”  I’m a huge believer of this theory. I always have bad luck with the hair industry because I feel like I’m always a victim to their high turn-over rate. I’ve only seen the same stylist a maximum of 3 times because they leave the salon or I’ve moved to a different city. Now that I’m permanently living in New York, my quest to find a moderately priced salon began back in May. I went to the same stylist twice since then (not without issues though) and recently found out she has left the salon. I don’t care for the salon enough to keep going back, and I don’t know if I want to seek out my old stylist. I am caught in a bind and of course I’m nearing the time to get my highlights redone.

     Back to Hey, Hey! Gorgeous, I’ve been pursuing the sight all morning. Not only am I in need of highlights, I’ve caught the extensions bug. I bought some clip in extensions a couple of months ago and have fallen in love with the long hair look. So I’ve been looking for salons that do extensions, who aren’t going to cost me my entire savings. Permanent extensions are very expensive. Getting them done, styling and maintenance are going to cost quite a bit. Price is is something important to me but also that they are done correctly and in the least damaging manor. So with all that said, the site is kind of a relief because they pull all the best salons at different price points in New York City . They list all the information you’re looking for and then some.

Jeremy Scott S/S ’13

It’s no lie that Jeremy Scott is probably my favorite designer, hands down. I caught up with the show this evening and once again Jeremy managed to amaze. The show titled “Arab Summer” features aqua python, gold chain-print with a Jeremy Scott logo (of course), and black floor-length headdresses. Models wore a variety of hats and keffiyehs down the runway, maybe another nod to the culture. Always the fashion risk taker, Jeremy made a few of the dresses have a heavy amount of golden guns dangling from the material. Word is Paris Hilton, Ryan Lochte, and Tyra Banks were in attendance at Milk Studios this afternoon. Jeremy’s collections always seem to transcend fashion and make a more artistic comment on society and culture. His artistic vision and ability to translate it into fashion is what is so brilliant about him.

 

 

 

Alexander Wang S/S 2013

The Alexander Wang show not only flooded my twitter feed, but also was the most talked about show from Saturday, September 8, 2012. Waiting to view the photos of the collection properly, through style.com, I finally got my chance last evening. I was floored. The garments are futuristic in a way that’s wearable. There are meticulous cutouts and illusions held together by fishing wire making the garments look like they are wearing the models. The finale was a stunner:  all the models were placed on the runway, standing still, and the lights were cut revealing that the dresses glow in the dark. Sitting front row was an array of fashion-staples from Anna Della Russo to A$AP Rocky.

 

 

 

 

 

 

NARS + Andy Warhol

NARS has decided to follow the trend of collaborations and has teamed up with pop art icon Andy Warhol to create a limited edition collection. I am so excited for this, I am even considering waiting in line. If that’s necessary. As a lifetime fan of art and Andy Warhol, the products and packaging are amazing. From Debbie Harry palettes to Edie-inspired lip glosses, this collection could not make me any happier. The collection, to be released at Sephora on October 1, consists of shadows, blushes, pencils, nail color, lip glosses, and a special Silver Factory-inspired Illuminator. Andy’s love of color and beauty makes him the perfect artist to inspire a make-up collection.

NYmag: The Cut, and other things…

I seem to have a bit of downtime lately. I’ve been reading blogs like crazy, gotten into chia seeds, baked cupcakes for a friend, and written quite a lengthy article for an upcoming September issue of a digital magazine (more details to come once published, of course). While perusing beaucoups of blogs I’ve come across New York Magazine’s new site for The Cut which is their newly launched fashion site. It is truly amazing, every article is extremely interesting and quite edgy to say the least (some articles I didn’t dare open at work). Everyone should give it a browse, you won’t regret it.

Something else caught my eye as I was browsing site though: there were haunting photos of a young girl which reminding me of Catherine Earnshaw of Wuthering Heights. I looked closer at the photos and discovered they were never-before-seen vintage contact sheets of Angelica Houston circa 1967. The photos are absolutely captivating and were taken on the set of her father’s movie in Ireland. They are lovely, and below is a picture of a small portion of the larger sheet. You truly feel like photographer when looking at the full screen image The Cut launches for you, so take advantage.

 

Battle of the September Issues

GAGA on Vogue, Victoria on Glamour, Penelope on W, but so far my favorite cover is Katy Perry for Elle. Sometimes Katy can surprise us and turn on the glam. She wears a gorgeous pink Bottega dress which goes perfectly with her purple-highlighted black hair.  Which cover is your favorite so far?

The Girl

HBO’s latest project is The Girl, a movie that explores the relationship between Alfred Hitchcock and leading lady Tippi Hedren (The Birds). Sienna Miller and Toby Jones take on the lead roles in this exciting venture. HBO plans to release the movie in October, for Halloween perhaps? Regardless I cannot wait. I’ve been fascinated with Hitchcock since I wrote about Grace Kelly for my magazine internship last summer. He was certainly an interesting man and I look forward to seeing Jones’s portrayal of the master of suspense. Sienna’s ability to transform, and of course the fashion, have also caught my eye. Below are a few photos that have recently surfaced from the film.

 

 

Givenchy Shark Tooth Boots

Yeah, I’ve been on a Givenchy kick lately, but that’s only because Ricardo Tisci is a genius. I’m obsessed with these boots since I saw Kate Upton wear them in her July Vogue photo shoot. They seem like the perfect fall riding boot.
