One of the most anticipated films of this year is Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers. Why? Because it’s stars are seemingly perfect Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Selena Gomez, and Rachel Korine having sex, using drugs and more things of that nature. It was brilliant. Not to mention when I saw it in the theater I climbed over Michael Cera to get to my seat, but that’s another story. One of the things that really grabs your attention (mainly because you can’t look away) is the outfits in the film. The girls are often in bikinis and Jame’s Franco in decorative ghetto fabulous gear. Inspired by the film Opening Ceremony has teamed up with Heidi Bivens to create a capsule collection. Jerseys, bikinis, sweatpants, and crop tops: everything you need for a perfect Spring Break. I find the collection amazing. Its not enough that I can’t stop thinking about the movie, but now I can own pieces that are practically off the set. Here’s a look at some of my favorites:

Hi Lovely Readers,
I just wanted to let you all know I write for a digital magazine called Jenesequa and I’m so proud to work with them. This month I wrote an article about fashion illustration (sneak peek below) and it’s rise in popularity. It’s a free digital magazine you can download for iPad/iPhone in the App store. I would describe it as a cross between Nylon and Elle, so if either of those interest you, Jenesequa is what you need! Add it to your reading material, you won’t regret it!

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
I apologize for the quality of the photos below but I had to be sneaky. Stores don’t take too kindly when you’re photographing their merchandise in-store.
Behold the Kenzo tiger sweater. Cult and blogger favorite, retails for $255. Beautiful.
Now behold H&M’s take
And Zara’s
Tigers are popular!
I also found this little number at Zara. Look familiar?

Jennifer Lawrence was the most talked about woman of the evening. Her starring role in one of the year’s top films “Silver Linings Playbook” allowed her to grace award season. Picked as the early favorite for Best Actress, Lawrence wore Dior Haute Couture for most of her big events. Oscar night was no different. The gown was predicted by many fashion critics as the dress she would wear. A stunning layered cream and baby pink dress from the Spring 2013 couture collection. The dress looked thick and somewhat heavy, like a duvet or comforter (I realize that sounds terrible for such a beautiful dress), but that’s probably why it took an army to help her navigate the red carpet.
So here is the MBFW schedule beginning next weekend. I took a look as I always do, and though I’d provide some brief commentary on what I am most looking forward to. As I highlighted my favorites (seen above in yellow) I realized, there aren’t may of my favorites that show in New York, and they may have all gone to London. Gasp. That is the big thing this year, many designers are choosing to show in London . I am all for the spread of fashion culture, but it used to mean something when you said you were showing at New York Fashion Week. That’s all I’m saying.
The first few days in my opinion, aren’t anything special. But they always save the more high-end and prestigious collections for the end. So what am I excited about? I’ll tell you:
Monique Lhuillier- who doesn’t love a good ball gown/wedding dress. Known for amazing detail and handwork in ornate dresses
Zac Posen- I feel like he’s the younger version of Marc Jacobs, and one day he too, will have a huge empire (z spoke, Zac Posen, collabs, etc) managing all his diversion lines and maybe an old fashion house or two
MM6 Maison Martin Margiela- What’s that jacket? Yes, it’s MM6. I love seeing what minimal-yet-highly constructed garments MM6 will present. It’s going to be strange and weird, but it’s also art.
Badgley Mischka– Finally, a fashion brand has surfaced between mass market shows. Badgley Mischka is beautiful and hopefully impressive. There are probably future best dressed looks in their collection.
Rachel Zoe- No I’m not obsessed with her, or worship her, but I do think her clothes are elegant and vintage-chic. She does a great job with converting her vision into reality. I am happy she continues to have a show at NYFW.
Milly by Michelle Smith- Preppy, colorful, cutesy. I’m trying to relive the days of Gossip Girl. No, I actually do love the Milly show. The looks are well put together and I often find myself saying, ” I want to wear that.”
Calvin Klein Collection: Minimal and yet elegant, I always love CK for this. I have flashbacks of Emma Stone’s lovely peach Oscar dress. Lets recreate that type of garment, shall we?
Can we please take a moment to talk about why/how Betsey Johnson is showing? I thought they were bankrupt? Regardless, I hope this NYFW is eventful and that lines surprise me. Who knows, maybe they’ll end up on this list in the fall.
Wildfox Spring 2012 is taking inspiration from the 1990s cult vehicle Clueless. They have really outdone themselves with their Spring 2012 lookbook. I think I want everything, and I’ve never been a Wildfox shopper. I find it too….what’s the opposite of LA noir? Well it’s that. Below are a few of my favorite photos. Check out the rest here.
